Additional Learning Support (ALS) for Apprentices at LAAT

At London Academy for Applied Technology (LAAT), we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all our apprentices. We understand that every learner is unique, and we are proud to offer a range of Additional Learning Support (ALS) services to help you achieve your goals.

We encourage all apprentices to disclose any learning difficulties or disabilities so that we can provide tailored support to meet your individual needs. Our approach is flexible and inclusive, ensuring that you receive the right level of support to excel in your apprenticeship.

How We Support You

We offer a variety of support options, including:

  • One-to-One Sessions: Weekly personalised support to help you stay on track with your learning.
  • In-Class Support: Assistance within the learning environment to help you participate fully and confidently.
  • Exam Access Arrangements: Special arrangements for assessments, such as additional time or adapted materials, to ensure a fair and supportive examination process.
  • Specialist Equipment: If you have a physical or sensory disability, we provide access to specialist equipment to enhance your learning experience.

How to Access Support

We aim to put your support in place as early as possible once your apprenticeship begins, increasing your chances of success. To get started:

  • Speak to Your Tutor: Your tutor can refer you to the ALS team if you express the need for additional support.
  • Self-Referral: You can also refer yourself by contacting the ALS team directly.
  • Confidential Needs Assessment: We encourage you to book a Needs Assessment to evaluate your requirements. This assessment takes about 45 minutes and is completely confidential.

Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP)

If you have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), please inform your local authority that you are interested in enrolling at LAAT. Your local authority will then need to send your EHCP to info@laatedu.com as part of their consultation process. Our ALS Team will review your EHCP and coordinate with both you and your local authority to ensure appropriate support is in place.
